In Tight Market, More Firms Look to Rehire Alumni

Associate attrition, brisk lateral movement and a dearth of minority and women attorneys have prompted law firms to get creative in trying to hang on to good help. Large firms are starting to realize that maintaining contacts with departed lawyers through concerted alumni efforts is one key to enticing top talent to return to the fold. Contact with Vinson & Elkins is a big reason why Veronica Lewis returned to the firm after an 18-month in-house stint. "In a way, I felt like I never left," she says.
