Cozen O'Connor Launches Minneapolis Office

Cozen O'Connor has opened a Minneapolis office with eight transactional and commercial litigation attorneys from Chicago-based Hinshaw & Culbertson. Cozen cited Minneapolis' location between Chicago and Seattle, where the firm already has offices, as an attractive addition to its geographic footprint.

Morrison & Foerster Helps Israeli Drug Company With U.S. IPO

Guided by Morrison & Foerster partners Bruce Mann and Andrew Thorpe, Israeli pharmaceutical company Kamada has raised $51.6 million in its initial public offering. A Davis Polk team led by partner Michael Kaplan advised the underwriters. Kamada is one of relatively few Israeli companies to go public in the U.S. in recent years.

GCs Offer Words of Wisdom for Outside Counsel

General counsel want to like the outside attorneys they hire and don't necessarily mind following lawyers who jump firms, judging by comments offered last week by a panel of top corporate legal officers from around New England. The panelists were unanimous when asked to rank what's most important to them in an outside lawyer.

Stamford Recruits Pair for Construction Practice Launch

Singapore's Stamford Law Corp. has recruited two directors to launch a construction law practice. Lynette Chew and Kelvin Aw join from 11-lawyer Inca Law, where they were both founding directors, and which Stamford said would cease operations after their departures. The two are bringing two more junior lawyers with them to Stamford.

Atlanta Firm Acquires San Francisco Boutique

Atlanta-based Freeman Mathis has snapped up a litigation boutique to break into the California marketplace. Seven lawyers from Strazulo Fitzgerald, which has offices in San Francisco and Hermosa Beach, Calif., have joined 50-lawyer Freeman Mathis, which is expanding out of state to better meet the needs of its national clients, the firm said.

K&L Gates Adds IP Partner

K&L Gates has poached two lawyers from Haynes and Boone for its Orange County, Calif., IP and international arbitration practices. Kimberley Chen Nobles, who joins as a partner, will help K&L Gates expand its patent prosecution practice to include electrical engineering clients and help it step up its work overseas. An associate moved with her from Haynes and Boone.

Haynes and Boone Announces Shanghai Plans

Dallas-based Haynes and Boone has announced plans to open its first Asia office, to be located in Shanghai. The firm last fall recruited former O'Melveny & Myers Hong Kong counsel Yan Zhang as a China-focused partner, who will divide his time between Shanghai and San Jose and co-head the new office with a locally recruited partner.

Pullman & Comley Absorbs Small Firm

In at least the second instance of a larger firm absorbing a smaller firm in Connecticut in recent months, Pullman & Comley has announced it is expanding its practices that represent school districts and municipalities by hiring all but one member of Sullivan Schoen. Analysts say such mergers allow firms to quickly expand into new practice areas.

Addleshaw Goddard Inks Japan Alliance

London-based Addleshaw Goddard has entered into an exclusive alliance with 16-lawyer Japanese firm Hashidate Law Office. The alliance will greatly expand Hashidate's ability to service clients increasingly focused on Asian, Middle Eastern and African markets, the firm said. For Addleshaw Goddard, the alliance is the latest in a series of overseas moves.
