Clyde & Co to Open in Beijing

Clyde & Co has announced plans to open a Beijing office. Energy and infrastructure partner Lynia Lau will lead the new office, relocating from Hong Kong along with an associate. The office will focus on advising Chinese energy and mining companies on outbound transactions in the Middle East, Australia, Africa and Latin America.

Addleshaw Goddard to Open in Hong Kong

U.K. firm Addleshaw Goddard will launch a Hong Kong office later this month. The new office will be jointly headed by the 400-lawyer firm's newly appointed international managing partner, Andrew Carpenter, and international arbitration partner Jonathan Tattersall, who heads Addleshaw's engineering, projects and construction litigation team.

Sidley Adds Singapore Partner

Sidley Austin has recruited a mergers and acquisitions partner for its Singapore office. Gregory Salanthe was previously co-managing partner of the Tokyo office for Morgan Lewis. One of four firms awarded a Qualifying Foreign Law Practice license to practice Singapore law earlier this year, Sidley Austin now has 10 lawyers in the city-state.

Kilpatrick Hires Boston Scientific's VP of IP

Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton is expanding its medical device practice by bringing a former colleague back from the in-house fold. Nena Bains joins the firm's Silicon Valley office as a partner from Boston Scientific, where she was VP of intellectual property and legal affairs.

Katten Muchin Opens Houston Office

Adding eight laterals, including prominent workplace safety and environmental lawyer Mark Farley, Katten Muchin has opened a Houston office, expanded in Austin and beefed up its environmental practice. Farley, who formerly worked at Pillsbury and whose clients include Chevron and other large refining companies and chemical manufacturers, will lead Katten's new Houston office.

Prager to Assume Deanship at Southwestern Law School

Susan Westerberg Prager, a leading figure in legal education who once served as dean of the UCLA School of Law, will assume the top administrative position at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles next fall. Since 2008, Prager has been the executive director of the Association of American Law Schools, the largest legal education organization in the country.

DLA Piper Adds Sydney Partner

DLA Piper has added a tax partner in Sydney. Matthew Cridland joins from the local office of KPMG, where he was a director. His practice focuses on issues relating to indirect taxes, like sales or value-added taxes. Cridland has advised clients in the financial, real estate, energy and telecommunications sectors, among others.

Stephenson Harwood Launches in Beijing

U.K. firm Stephenson Harwood has opened a Beijing office to be staffed by legal director James Zhang, most recently a partner at Zhong Yin Law Firm, and one other legal director, who will join at a later date. The office will initially support the firm's corporate and maritime law groups, with plans for future hiring focused on international trade, arbitration and asset finance practices.

Mintz Levin Takes IP Partner From Goodwin Procter

IP partner Paul Davis has jumped from Goodwin Procter to Mintz Levin, the sixth partner to join the Boston-based firm in San Francisco so far this year. Davis' experience in life sciences and medical devices complements the firm's national strengths, said Paul Churchill, managing partner of the firm's San Francisco office.
