As the world has grown smaller, both marriages and divorces have become more common between citizens of different nations. Family lawyers increasingly find themselves representing clients splitting from spouses in foreign lands -- situations that can involve clashing cultures, inconsistent legal systems and scant guidance about which country's laws control.
